Festival History

The Fox Valley Music Festival was the creation of a group of devoted school music directors who wanted their students to have the experience of singing and playing with others of their own age, as a reward for hard work in their home schools, as inspiration to continue striving for their best, as a challenge to rehearse and perform a concert of advanced music with other outstanding high school musicians in only a few short hours of rehearsal.

On May 4, 1928, directors and students from 10 valley high schools met at St. Charles High School for their first festival. Very soon, the idea of having a huge chorus with selected singers from all schools came into being, with a big selected band and big orchestra sharing the festival. Guest conductors of outstanding musicianship were invited to work with the young performers to give them an experience they would never forget.

With the exception of one year during World War II, this festival has occurred every year since its inception. In 1979, the Fox Valley Music Festival celebrated its 50 th Anniversary. Today, the Fox Valley Music Festival continues to offer students a fantastic Festival Concert experience, showcasing excellence, dedication, and the promotion of music education in our schools.

Thank-you for being a part of one of the oldest music festivals in our nation!
